It was Saturday night and we were invited to a birthday party at Radio Bar at the ME London Hotel.
Located in the middle of The Strand, the ME London hotel is perfectly positioned near Covent Garden and Trafalgar square within easy reach of theatres, shopping areas and cool night life. The innovative design of the hotel really hits you as you walk and there is nothing quite like it in London.
Bar Marconi, the lobby lounge, is modern and cosmopolitan with cutting-edge design elements, it serves a bespoke cocktail menu as well as beers, wines and soft drinks.
Before meeting our friends it was dinner first, of course. The ME London houses two restaurants, both trendy New York imports. Unable to get a table at the slick steak house, STK, I booked Mr Silver and myself into Cucina Asellina. ME London’s alternative restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine in a comfortable and contemporary setting. On the Saturday night the restaurant was packed out and lively.
Mr Silver ordered a Sauv Blanc while we perused the menu.
Bread was decent but uninspiring.
We both chose relatively light starters.
A well-executed beef carpaccio for Mr Silver.
And a perfectly cured beetroot smoked salmon for me. The inclusion of the grapefruit make the dish refreshing and zesty.
The menu also included some rather delicious-sounding flat breads.
‘Shall we share one of these for starter, too’ I said imagining something small.
When it arrived:
‘We’ll never eat all that,’ I lied….
Well…it was too good to leave any!!
Mr Silver chose one of the specials, lamb chops with a delicious ragout on the side. I kept stealing the rich vegetable melange from his plate!
A comforting fish stew for me, like a hug in a bowl, loaded with shellfish and whitefish. Ooooh and more bread!!
Already totally carbed up I suggested a refreshing dessert.
A sundae of raspberry and lemon sorbet and vanilla ice cream finished us off and we headed upstairs for drinks.
Radio Bar is perhaps THE London bar of the moment. The urban design reflects the rest of the hotel and on a Saturday night it was full of people.
The most exciting aspect of the bar is the outdoor terrace and the panoramic views of London. As you look out Tower Bridge, The Shard, London Bridge, St Paul’s the London Eye and Big Ben are all in sight. Perfect for viewing London in a nutshell.
Radio is totally fantastic and a must visit for Londoners and tourists alike!!
After a few vinos in Radio, it was on to a brand new boutique Mayfair club, Kitsch London.
Here the music was great! I love cheesy tunes so myself and Mr Silver danced the night away with our friends! A really fun night out and lots of great venues to enjoy.
