A Family Stay at The Kimpton Charlotte Square

There’s so many great places to stay in Edinburgh but we settled on the Kimpton Charlotte Square, located in the centre of the city overlooking the eponymous garden square, an iconic spot in the city!
The hotel architecture is beautiful, housed in interconnected Georgian townhouses, all the decor is stylishly modern but with nods to Scottish heritage such as touches of tartan.
The main area of the hotel is themed around a tranquil garden with plants, living walls and lots of natural light! Within the Garden is one of the hotel restaurants, and though we didn’t opt to dine there we were intrigued by Aizle which offers seasonal tasting menus.

The hotel bar is at the end of The Garden is the perfect place to meet with a full bar menu and a ‘happy hour’ between 5pm and 7pm where they serve free wine and popcorn. The hotel is also home to one of the most popular restaurants in the city, and we dined in BABA on our first night and we loved the Levantine food, sampling dishes such as yoghurt-marinated whole grilled sea bream, cauliflower fritters, zhug and crème fraîche and slow-cooked lamb shoulder, ptitim, rose harissa, preserved lemon, mint and pomegranate. I also loved the interiors with the bold turquoise walls, cosy armchairs and eclectic rugs.

It was also here where we enjoyed breakfast every morning where high chairs were provided for Noah and Oscar fell in love with the hot chocolate.

For the room we opted for interconnecting Premium double rooms, we’ve found this to be a great solution for our family as you end up with lots of space and two bathrooms and it’s often cheaper than getting a suite. I really liked the design of the room with the wood panelling, vintage mirroring and telephone and artwork. The bed was incredibly comfortable and sheets super soft. The heavy velvet curtains were also great for blacking out the morning light.

A cot, nappy bin and baby products were provided for Noah.

Though we didn’t have time to use it the hotel also provides a full service spa with massages, facials and even the UK’s first dedicated sound wellness room. There’s also a full gym and indoor heated pool.
The staff were really warm and helpful and overall we were very impressed by the service making the Kimpton Charlotte Square the perfect base for a stay in Edinburgh.
