There’s nothing like a place full of beauty (whether natural or man made) to capture your heart while travelling. Here’s my list of the five most beautiful places that I’ve visited.
1. Amalfi Coast
Maybe one day I’ll stop going on about how amazing the Amalfi Coast in Italy is but that isn’t yet…I’m still dreaming of that beautiful place and feel a huge sense of nostalgia every time I see pictures.
It’s place that looks so utterly magical in photos with rugged cliffs, multi-coloured houses and the bluest sea – I hardly believed it could be really that incredible. But trust me it is. It’s everything that you would hope for and more. The Amalfi Coast is absolutely perfect for the special occasion in your life: honeymoon, anniversary or even your wedding or vow renewal.
I recommend staying in Positano at Il San Pietro di Positano if you want somewhere utterly romantic and secluded with a guests only restaurant and private beach.
Or choose the iconic Il Sirenuse for a hotel closer to the main action in Positano near the famous beach.
2. Santorini
Those white washed walls and blue domes rooftops… have become the iconic vision of the Greek Island of Santorini. When we visited about two years ago, staying in the sought after town of Oia, as soon as I saw that view… it took my breath away…
Santorini is known for the caldera, a volcanic eruption in 1600 BC gave the island it’s unique circular shape and it is one of the largest calderas in the world and absolutely stunning! Choose a restaurant with a view to admire the sheer beauty of the place while eating fresh fish and Greek salad.
The town of Oia is all quaint cobbled streets and there are vibrant pink flowers everywhere!
Of course, Santorini is known for the having some of the world’s best sunsets so find a secluded spot with your loved one to watch the sun dip under the horizon.
3. The Winelands, South Africa
I’ve visited a few wine regions but no where has quite taken my breath away like the Winelands of South Africa. The verdant rolling hills and mountain and fields full of vines… plus the 300 days of sunshine in South Africa doesn’t hurt either!
A day visiting the popular towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl within the mountains should be spent visiting vineyards and enjoying long lunches at world class restaurants. I especially recommend lunch at the Delaire Graff Estate which is perhaps the most beautiful restaurant view I’ve ever experienced…
For a totally opulent stay in this beautiful area choose La Residence which also boasts stunning views and gardens.
4. Venice
Not only one of the most beautiful, but I truly believe one of the most magical cities in the world! I visited in 2016 and was by the beauty of being surrounded by canals, bridges and utterly stunning architecture. St Mark’s Square, singing gondeliers and bellinis by the canal. I fell so in love instantly.
Then there’s the multi-coloured towns of Burano and Murano adding to the already resplendent beauty of the city.
I loved my stay at The Gritti Palace, located right on the Grand Canal!
5. Bora Bora
My ultimate dream honeymoon destination, made a reality in 2014! From our Hotel Four Seasons Bora Bora we had a perfect view of the majestic volcano Mount Otemanu and the waters were so perfectly crystal clear and the sand white as powder.
It was my first experience of staying in an over water villa and the whole experience felt like an other worldly paradise!
Those are the five most beautiful places I’ve ever visited where are yours?
