There’s nothing quite like seeing a beautiful coast line then seeing it by boat… well I’ve come to learn this ever since meet Mr S who is passionate about boats after spending his childhood around them. As it was a very special anniversary trip we decided to charter a yacht for the day and really see the coast line in style!
We enlisted the help of the concierge at Il San Pietro di Positano who booked ‘Joey II’ a Morgan 44 refined yacht. On the morning of the boat trip we headed down to the private beach at the hotel, waiting in eager anticipation…
Joey soon arrived on the horizon and Mr S and clambered in….
Waving goodbye to our beautiful cliff top hotel…
Soon Positano came into view…
And I spotted the iconic red walls of Le Sirenuse, which would be our next hotel on this fabulous trip.
We soon stopped at a little swimming beach where Mr S leapt out of the boat and had a bit of a paddle while I stay in the comfort of Joey, admiring the beautiful cliff formations.
Next we approached The Lovers Arch and our captain explained that if we kissed while sailing through the arch we would be together for ever!
Well Mr S and I don’t need a silly supersition to tell us we’ll be together for ever but we had a kiss anyway…you know, just in case…
And what’s a fancy yacht trip without a glass of bubbles? The captain popped open a bottle of prosecco and got our party in full swing.
We soon approached the island of Capri and the Captain pointed up… ‘I suggest lunch there…it’s my favourite restaurant…’ er yes I wanted lunch there. After a quick phone call our reservation was made and rib was sent out to collect us and take us across to the beautiful Capri Palace Hotel. With our table not quite ready, we just had time to browse their beautiful boutique and pick up a few things.
Part of the Capri Palace Hotel, Il Riccio is an absolutely gorgeous clifftop restaurant with a view right over the sea. I didn’t realise until later but it actually has a Michelin-star, you’d never know from the setting as it has the atmosphere of a laid back beach club. I loved all the blue furnishings and vines that give that sea side feeling. If you do want something more formal, you could pay a visit to L’Olivio, the hotel’s two Michelin star restaurant.
Portion sizes aren’t your little fussy Michelin-star type size either and Mr S loved his starter of spaghetti vongole and I really enjoyed my tuna tartare three ways. For main course I had spaghetti and seafood, one of my all time favourites and he opted for the red mullet. The service is a little slow but it was very busy on this sunny lunch time so that was quite understandable. If you have room for dessert you can visit the restaurant’s Temptation room, but I had a another idea in mind…
The hotel is located right night the Blue Grotto, Capri’s famous sea cave but we just had a little look from the outside as our boat was too big to fit in it. Once back on the Joey II, our captain took us around the island and from there it was a short taxi ride into town.
And oh what a beautiful town!! Capri is just a small island but it’s full of designer shops and there’s flowers everywhere.
And that idea I mentioned? Well I remembered watching my favourite You Tubers Pia and Kane going to Capri and trying the best ice cream on the island. So obviously I had to… Buonocore Gelateria is famous on the island and there was a bit of a queue but it was worth it!
Finishing up our ice cream we bought a gorgeous ceramic bowl covered in lemons as a special souvenir to take home. Mr S and I loved Capri and decided when we come back to the Amalfi Coast (which we definitely will!!) we’ll be sure to spend a few nights on the island.
Back on the boat and drunk on happiness, good food and prosecco, Mr S and I lay back in of the boat enjoying the cool breeze as the boat took us back to beautiful Positano home…
An incredible day to remember and our favourite of the trip.
