Is there any greater luxury than having your own private pool in your hotel room? The perfect place to cool off from the hot sun, just steps away from where you’re sleeping. Here my top ten of the world’s best hotels with private pools.
1. Jade Mountain, St Lucia
One of the most unique private pools we’ve ever had was at remarkably designed Jade Mountain in St Lucia. Our Galaxy Sanctuary, a huge plunge pool and every private pool in the hotel is different, unique in size, shape and colour
The pool actually replaces the fourth wall of the room meaning that there’s is an uninterrupted view of the glorious Pitons, the iconic peaks of St Lucia. Totally open to the elements, nature floods into the room through sunshine, bird song and the feeling that you are floating right on the sea!
There was a shallow end for sitting or your could sit could chill at the edge with a glass of wine in hand from the hotel’s all-inclusive wine list.
Additionally each pool is surfaced with one of a kind glass tiles which have been created especially for the hotel, a beautiful iridescent surface on one side and smooth on the other.
There’s also the option of illuminating the pool at night with a range of colours created by fibre optics.
2. Four Seasons Chiang Mai, Thailand
In the private pool villa at Four Seasons Chiang Mai, there’s not only a full length pool but also a glorious water garden!
Mini pools on the side of the main pool give the feeling that you are surrounded by water in this lush tropical setting. There’s also a private dining sala and deck where you can bask in the glorious Thai sunshine. At 400 metres squared, the living area is huge! So big you actually never have to leave.
3. Wolgan Valley, Australia
Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley is an incredible luxury lodge in the Blue Mountains, around three hours from Sydney. Set between two national parks with a private wild life reserve for kangeroos, wallabys and possums, this hotel in the Australian Bush really is one of a kind. As well as the incredible setting, Mr S and I were blown away by the beautiful rooms which were pretty much like having your own bungalow….
But best of all was the adjacent indoor pool.
Seven metres long and with its own private pool deck it really was something very special. And if you’re lucky, you may even see a kangeroo hopping around outside!
4. Alila Villas Uluwatu, Bali
There were many beautiful design aspects of the Alila Villas Uluwatu resort in Bali created by award-winning architectural firm WOHA. In particular are the stunning wood-slatted cabanas that characterise the hotel that have now become a rather iconic design element. The cabanas are featured throughout the hotel’s public areas but they also feature in every room as a shady respite from the Balinese sunshine.
Each of the 65 pool villas are designed to have an indoor / outdoor feel and open plan design so that the guest feels at one with the ebb and a flow of nature.
Including the stunning veranda with a large plunge pool and that famous cabana with view stretching out to the Indian Ocean.
5. Singita Boulders, South Africa
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Singita Boulders in Sabi Sands, South Africa is the best hotel that we’ve ever stayed in. From our amazing, once-in-life-time safari experiences, to the wonderful service and our unparalleled room, we were totally blown away by this luxury lodge.
Indoors and outdoors blend seamlessly in this incredible room and the bathroom appeared to flow into the huge wrap around terrace.
Our huge pool had an incredible view of the wilderness surrounding the hotel and there was even the chance of making a new friend as you enjoyed the sunshine.
6. Trisara, Thailand
There’s something about South East Asia and totally exquisite accommodation that is also excellent value for money. When we stayed at Trisara, in Phuket in Thailand our beautiful room led out on to a floating deck with a 10 metre private pool reaching out towards infinity…
As well as pool that you could actually swim laps in, it was the ideal spot for a barbecue.
One night we had our own private chef cook for us right outside our room with a view of the pool and the ocean beyond.
7. Sasaab, Kenya
Owned by The Safari Collection, Sasaab in Samburu in Kenya is the ultimate in luxury glamping. In fact the Moroccan themed tent is so luxurious it even boasts its own private plunge pool.
The pool was the perfect place to cool off after a hot and dusty safari…
And we could enjoy the view of Ewasu river with few adult beverages.
8. Viceroy, Bali
Every single room at Viceroy Bali has a private pool but when we arrived at the hotel in Ubud, an upgrade meant that we would be staying in one their largest villas with a very generous sized pool.
Leading straight from the room, and with a beautiful terrace, the pool had a view of the Petanu river valley.
The perfect place to make this tropical paradise your home.
9. Four Seasons Koh Samui, Thailand
It’s around eight years ago that I stayed at Four Seasons Koh Samui but it still remains lodged in my memory as one of my all time favourite hotels. Especially for our gorgeous pool villa perched high on the hillside.
The beautiful pool forms part of an expansive outdoor living area with day beds, dining table and chairs and sun loungers, surrounded by beautiful tropical trees and with a view of the Gulf of Siam.
10. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, Bali
Speaking of which, the rooms at Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay are amazing but the outdoor living area takes it to another level!
There’s an entire pavilion with a dedicated dining area, day bed, and even a mini bar!
The luxurious plunge pool is heated and fringe with a garden of exotic flowers.
Which one is your favourite?
