A favourite restaurant is like a good friend. Sometimes you don’t see each other that often but when you do you know it’ll be lovely, exciting and just as familiar as ever.Hakkasan has long been one of my favourite restaurants in London and when my foodie friend Theresa came to town I was keen for her to try it out. I don’t get to see Theresa often as she lives in Bristol, but when I do its like we’ve never been apart. Lots of old familiar jokes, good times and plenty of wine!
The destination was Mayfair, Hakkasan’s second London restaurant. Hakkasan Mayfair opened in 2010 and was awarded its first Michelin star less than a year after opening. Hakkasan has now extended into Shoreditch by opening HKK, a fantastic restaurant which Mr Silver and I paid a visit to last year.
I love the slick and sexy black interior of the gorgeous Cantonese restaurant.
The restaurant also extends into a cool blue tinged restaurant and bar which is always buzzing with activity.
It wouldn’t be a SilverSpoon lunch without the obligatory glass of champagne…
At Hakkasan dim sum is definitely the way to go, it’s absolutely top notch here.
The platter contains scallop shumai, har gau (prawn dim sum), prawn Chinese chive dumpling and the duck dumpling. We both love seafood and dim sum and these these gorgeous bite-sized morsels were perfectly cooked and light.
Crab noodle rolls were our next small bite and another heavenly nibble, enhanced with a delicious sauce. I find Chinese sauces can be a little cloying but this one was silky smooth.
Next, our favourite, soft-shell crab. Though deep-fried the dish wasn’t heavy or greasy, actually it was pretty damn near perfect!
Prawn wontons are our final small plate. The wontons weren’t quite what I was expecting them to be and the sauce was a bit too sweet.
Stir-fry Chilean sea with Szechuan pepper was yet another star. We both love spicy food and this dish hit all the right notes.
Our first side dish was stir-fried seafood noodles. I could have eaten a whole plate of this delicious comfort food, it was all my favourite things in fabulous combination.
And a spicy side of stir-fried broccoli.
For a little sweet something we ordered a basket of Macarons. The vanilla were Theresa’s favourite and she could have eaten a whole plate full! I loved the beige which were apple crumble flavour. The green ones were less popular as the texture was a little unsual.
We loved the vanilla so much we asked for a dainty little extra.
Two very happy friends reunited!!

This is a scheduled post during the busy time of my upcoming wedding. I went to Hakkasan back in early April, but I’m pretty sure it hasn’t changed much since then 😉Â
