Umai Sushi Saturday at Sake No Hana

Lauren and I are slowly ticking things off our London bucket list both in terms of restaurants and experiences. Sake No Hana, the Japanese restaurant by Hakkasan Group is a favourite of both of ours and we were both intrigued by the Umai Sushi Saturday menu that seemed almost too good to be true. On the menu was a cocktail, a bottle of Louis Roederer Premier NV Champagne between you and a seven course meal, all for £49!
We were both very pleased with our cocktails. A Coupette No.3 with gin, ginger, pink grapefruit, vanilla and chilli for me (Mr S would have loved this) and a cucumber and ginger spritz for Lauren containing Aperol, ginger, cucumber, soda water and prosecco over ice.
A steaming bowl of miso soup was up first to chase an signs of a cold October day away.
I don’t tend to be a huge fan of sesame spinach but I didn’t find this dish as overpowering as usual. Though those who love it would be disappointed by the lack of sauce.
Next up the champagne – and as this menu is intended for a minimum of two people you’ll receive a bottle between you.
Now a trio of light bites; we loved the chu toro sashimi with egg soy sauce, the fired aubergine with miso and the tempura prawns with wasabi sauce.
Our first taste of sushi – and the sushi at Sake No Hana is some of my favourite in London. Head Chef Hideki Hiwatashi was born in Japan and trained under chef Murata Yoshihiro – regular readers will know I met him both at his three-Michelin restaurant Roan Kikunoi restaurant in Kyoto, Japan and at Tokimeite his London restaurant.

The perfect combination of salmon, tuna, sea bass nigiri was hungrily shared between us.
For the main course there’s choice and we opted to share the char-grilled salmon on hoba leaf with red miso teriyaki and chargrilled miso chicken with sesame chilli miso. Red meat lovers should go for the rib eye beef suki yaki with candy floss prepared at the table. Or for a supplement there’s premium wagyu beef. Those craving carbs will by pleased with the accompaniment of truffle and wild mushroom pot rice.
We were feeling pretty much done when another sushi course came out – I told you this meal was good value for money! The maki rolls included salmon, white fish and cucumber; snow crab, avocado; and cucumber, takuan and shiitake.
Desserts at any of the Hakkasan restaurants shouldn’t be missed and I opted for an assortment of mochi whilst Lauren went for the beautiful ‘bamboo’ which included sesame, kumquat, white chocolate mousse.

As usual I totally recommend Sake No Hana and the Umai Sushi Saturday menu is a winner both in terms of quality and value for money.
