Summer Travel Plans and Upcoming Trips

Hello lovely readers, with quite a few trips in quick succession, I thought I’d write a quick update on what travel plans I have in place over summer. As it currently stands I have a few shorter trips and long weekends over the warmer months which are a mixture of press trips and personal holidays.

May – Milan and Lake Como

I’ve already told you how excited I am to be heading back to Italy for our third wedding anniversary! Mr S and I will be spending one night in the super-chic city of Milan staying at Four Seasons Hotel Milan and with plans for lots of shopping and Michelin-star dining.

After a night there we’ll be driving down to Lake Como for a stay at Hotel Grand Tremezzo, a gorgeous luxury property that has been on my bucket list for a very long time. Here the plan is to relax and enjoy a boat trip, spa treatments, and lots of lovely food both at the hotel and in the surrounding area.
After a relaxing time with Mr S we’ll be heading back to London and I’ll be staying over night at Heathrow before catching a flight the next day.

Bilbao / Madrid / Jerez

An exclusive press trip with Gin Mare will see me on a gastronomic tour of Spain visiting Michelin star restaurants and staying in a boutique hotel Totem, part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. After landing in Bilbao I’ll head to Elciego for lunch and wine tasting before being transferred to Madrid for a dinner at a brand new restaurant with tapas and gin pairings.

The next day we’ll be taking the fast train to Jerez to visit a famous bodega before lunch at a two Michelin starred restaurant with more gin!

In June I’ll be heading to Santorini as part of a collaboration with Classic Collection. We’ll be staying in a brand new hotel in the small town of Oia which is somewhere I’ve always wanted to stay.

I’ll be taking Mr S along with me on this press trip and I can’t wait for some Santorini sunsets and some fresh Greek food on this island that’s been on my bucket list for ages!

Having never been to Madrid before, I’ll be heading there for the second time in quick succession in July. I’ll be back in Spain as part of a collaboration with a gorgeous hotel located in a converted 12th century abbey surrounded by vineyards. Again Mr S will be coming along to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, spa and the Michelin star restaurant. The hotel is around two hours drive from Madrid so we’ll be spending one night in the Spanish capital and two nights at the hotel in Valladolid.

I’ve finally booked Iceland!! I’m super excited to be heading there on holiday as a long weekend with Mr S. We’ll be flying into Reykjavik and have one night there before getting a short flight to Akureyri where we’ll be driven to the Troll Peninsula for a stay at brand new hotel, Deplar Farm.

Owned by Eleven Experiences, Deplar Farm is a luxury wilderness retreat which offers custom-made experiences for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Iceland. One of their signature activities is heli-skiing but some how I think a visit to puffin island and a trip to the waterfalls will be more up my street.

I’m super excited for all these trips and new adventures! Please let me know if you have any tips.

So that’s how my summer is shaping up. How about yours?

  • What an amazing summer!! It’s looking like Mexico, Budapest and hopefully a staycation or two for me!

  • Wow, these plans all sound amazing! I’ve admired Deplar Farm on other blogs and IG for quite some time already, so I’m interested to hear how your experience there will play out! 🙂 And the hotel in the converted abbey sounds very interesting as well! Have fun! 🙂

    • I’m very very excited about Deplar Farm!! And drinking wine in Spain too!

  • Some lovely sunny destinations in the mix and I’m sure you’ll love Iceland as much as we did!

  • What a fabulous list of upcoming trips! Can’t wait to following your Madrid/Bilbao/Jerez trip and Santorini is so high on my bucket list!! You are going to have the most amazing summer hun!

  • cool plans:)

  • The slow pace

Wow! You do have plans! We spent a few days around Lake Como last month and I can’t recommend you Villa del Balbianello enough! Just take the boat in the pier next to your hotel and stop at Lenno. We’ve published a guide on the area if you want to have a look. And about Madrid, what can I say! It’s my hometown! If you have time, visit La Latina on Sunday (with lunch at El Almendro, a truly authentic experience!) and don’t forget to have a long stroll in Barrio de los Austrias and Barrio de Las Letras. Oh, and for the best shopping: Las Salesas area. I love my home town! 😉 By the way, looking forward to your Iceland tips… I’ve always wanted to visit!
    Have lovely, safe travels!

    • I didn’t know you were from Madrid!! If you were to choose one place for lunch would it be El Amendro? I only have one day there when I go with Mr S. I literally cannot wait to visit Iceland and see all that beautiful scenery.

      • The slow pace

Hi Angie! Yes, I’m from Madrid! For just one lunch in Madrid I would definitely recommend El Almendro (it’s quientessential “madrileño” 😉 Order the Huevos rotos!) Besides it’s located in the most charming area of the city, so it would make a great experience. But maybe you will enjoy Mercado de San Miguel as well. This market was a sensation when it opened and it’s very very nice, though it’s usually quite crowded. However, since you focus on luxury travel, maybe you will find Bibo Madrid interesting. This is a new restaurant that Dani García, a Michelin starred Spanish cook, has opened recently. I’ve heard amazing reviews and the menu looks incredible! We are going to Madrid this Saturday (yay!) and we’ve booked a table at Bibo for Monday, I can’t wait! So if you want I can tell you how it was and maybe you can decide whether to go to El Almendro (traditional “castizo”) or to Bibo Madrid (modern and fancy). Oh, and now that I think about it, you can also pay a visit to Lucio (in the same area as El Almendro). That’s traditional yet luxurious and it’s said to be the favourite restaurant of Penelope Cruz! You know the typical classic restaurant that all vips love! Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further information! I’ll be very happy to help!

        • Lucio sounds fantastic!! I love the sound of somewhere traditional yet luxurious!! I can’t wait to hear what you think of Bibo, please do let me know!

  • Ooh I’m doing Michelin Milan (!) and then up to Como in June, can’t wait!! Will be much more of a gastronomic adventure than my climbing Kilimanjaro in August…. eek!! haha!

    Rosie xx

    • I love Milan and I can’t wait to eat ALL the food there! OMG how exciting about Kilimanjaro!

  • It sounds like you’ve got some fantastic trips ahead. Santorini is so beautiful and I’ve heard that Oia is meant to be an amazing place to visit there. I would love to visit Italy again, having only visited Venice so far x

    • I can’t wait to visit Santorini. I’ve been to Mykonos but I think Santorini looks even prettier! OMG Italy is the best!!

  • Sounds like a blissful summer!

  • Wow, that is an action (and fun) packed summer ahead of you – can’t wait to read about all your adventures!

  • Heck yes I’m so glad you’re going to Reykjavik in August – that was my plan until I decided to do my Balkan tour in August/September instead – it’s surprisingly a good time to see the Northern Lights or so I am told. Although I am most excited for your Michelin-star Spanish tour! Also, is it just my imagination or do you and Mr S celebrate your wedding anniversary every other week?! x

Melbourne, Australia: 10 Things You Must Do in Melbourne – Posh, Broke, & Bored

    • Lol! Well we celebrate our anniversary of getting together in January and our wedding anniversary in May. But yes, we’re always doing anniversary worthy things and have been on about 15 honeymoons. I’m super excited for Spain and Iceland.

  • Melissa Beare

Can’t wait to hear about Santorini and Iceland. They are both on my travel “must do within the next 5 years” list! Oh and my favorite tapas places in Madrid is Casa de Abuelo near the Plaza de Santa Ana for the garlic shrimp and Casa Toni on the same street for their patatas bravas – they are both divine!

    • Ooh thanks for the Madrid trip!! Though I’m going twice I don’t have lots of time to spend there so I need to choose right. If you could only choose one which would it be?

      • Melissa Beare

Casa de Abuelo, especially since you love seafood. You want an order of the Gambas al Ajillo which they make in an individual little crockery right on an open flame. There are no seats – you stand to eat so it’s a quintessential tapas spot. It’s on the Calle de la Victoria which also has several buildings covered with hand painted tiles and is very photogenic. My husband and I go there every time we are in Madrid.

        • That sounds incredible! Thank you so much it’s great to get a personal recommendation.

  • This sounds like an utterly scrumptious summer Mrs Spoon!

  • This all sounds amazing, Angie! But especially the puffins. I hope you get to see them!

  • Hayley Rubery

Oh love your summer sounds bloody MAGICAL! I’d LOVE to visit Santorini and Lake Como – can’t wait to see your snaps! 🙂 I loved Madrid when I went last year; such a great city!

    Hayley xo

  • Wow! definitely envious of your travel plans! I can’t wait to see images from all those amazing trips!
