Sometimes Mr Silver and I fight for the remote control...he wants to watch the football, the rugby or Question Time, whereas I want America's Next Top Model, Real Housewives or Big Brother... but there's one program that we both love...
Made in Chelsea! Actually I admit I have a total weakness for reality TV both real and constructed...
Mr S and I love shopping and generally moseying around the King's Road. On this occasion we were around for my nephew's birthday party in Beaufort House so we took my parents to neighbouring restaurant Bluebird. The Conran complex is something of an institution of the King's Road and it's where the stars of MIC hang out both on and off screen.
It was a sunny day and the glam Chelsea crowd were enjoying the courtyard and barbecue at the venue. Bluebird really is everything under one roof. It's a cafe, bar, food shop and restaurant and it's also ideal for private parties, be it a wedding or private dinner!
Mr S and I had taken my parents along for a lunch before descending on the madness of the toddler party. We were eating in the upstairs restaurant, accessed by a rather great glass elevator.
The interior is, of course, super cool with a metallic central circular bar, funky ceiling sculptures and modern chandeliers.
There's also a bar at the end of cavernous upstairs room, which is fully stocked with plenty of champers.
Mr S, looking smiley as ever!!
Food at Bluebird is Modern European and including lots of British classics.
Tuna sashimi with ponzu dressing, jalapeno and avocado was the starter of choice for me and my dad. I love the light fresh taste of this dish and Bluebird certainly knows how to do Japanese too! The sauce wasn't to salty and it had a great citrus kick from the ponzu, plus a note of spice from the jalapenos.
My mum will always have a soup if it's on the menu, and this time it took the form of white onion and cider. She found it too salty but passed it to the ever present disposal unit (aka my dad) who soon finished it!
Mr Silver chose the perennial classic, smoked salmon with the usual accoutrements. Salmon is my favourite thing ever, so I of course had a sample too!
Mains took the form of British classics.
A beautifully cooked Dover Sole for me. Well, we are starring in our own personal episode of Made in Chelsea after all...
Mr S went even more best of British with fish and chips.
And it was an epic portion and perhaps not the choice for the svelte cast of our favourite scripted reality show!! But Mr Silver loved the perfectly crisp batter and a flakey fish filling. The chips were jumbo size!
A grilled poussin for my mum and a gorgeous fresh salad. Bluebird certainly don't hold back on the portion sizes. My dad also had to help my mum finish her main but there was definitely no complaining from him!
My dad's dish was good old British lamb! He had a big smile on his face as he'd got to enjoy several different delicious dishes.
Bluebird may be super-seasoned but it's certainly not dated and hasn't lost its shine, Mr Silver and I have been there many times owing to the everlasting appeal of the place. It may not totally rock your world but you can rely on consistency, a menu with wide appeal and a good atmosphere. And the cast of Made in Chelsea will certainly concur ;)
